Statement on the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC
October 1st, 2025
The Central Executive Committee of the Popular Democracy Movement today salutes the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, first proclaimed on October 1st of 1949.
In the three quarters of a century since this epochal victory, the people of China have defeated the remnants of feudalism, fought back against imperialist exploitation and aggression, made numerous technological advances, demonstrated an impressive and vital commitment to environmental protection, and by 2020 even declared the eradication of extreme poverty. China's lifting of approximately 800 million people out of poverty has accounted for 75% of poverty reduction globally.
This profound historic event marked not only the opening of a new future towards dignity, prosperity, and democracy for the people of China, but was also met with immense enthusiasm by anti-colonial and national liberation movements around the world. The successes of such anti-colonial revolutions taking place in the wake of WWII were made possible by the defeat of the Axis powers, which formed the vanguard of imperialism, including imperial Japan against which China fought from 1931-1945, suffering as many as 20 million civilian and military casualties. Many of these anti-colonial revolutions would take on a socialist character, such as in Korea where even on the heels of their long struggle against the forces of reaction, the People's Liberation Army came out in support of Korea's sovereignty in the face of a devastating US led invasion.
The People's Republic of China has long provided a model for modernisation, economic development, and mutually beneficial partnerships between nations, while offering real friendship and support for nations seeking to achieve prosperity for their people without mortgaging their sovereignty and futures to the IMF, World Bank, and predatory global imperialist system. China today plays a vital role in geopolitics as a calm and rational voice for peace, for international relations based on mutual respect and support for the UN Charter, and in charting a course towards a multi-polar world, in stark contrast to the bullying, coercion, military aggression, unilateral sanctions and economic pressures which characterise US hegemony.
In conclusion, the CEC of the PM expresses its solidarity with the people of China as they advance towards achieving socialist modernisation by 2035, and its admiration for the goal of building "a prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful modern socialist country" by 2050.
